Let’s go ‘back to basics’ as it relates to our health and clean air at home and clean environments because air quality matters! Clean air is just as important as clean food and water, so we must be mindful and intentional with the quality of air we breathe daily. Air is all around us and since we can’t just hold our breath, we must make the best choices in regards to the air we’re breathing. When air quality is poor you may find yourself congested or short of breath and over a long period of time this isn’t ideal for optimal health. So let’s dig in to find out how we can breathe the cleanest air possible!
We know that indoor air quality may not always be the best, so the more time you can spend outside in clean air, the better! Getting outside and spending time in nature are key strategies for good, clean air. When spending time outdoors, you must be mindful of harmful air pollutants such as gas and smoke. If you live in an area where there is high pollution, try to find a cleaner air environment to be active in. Possible locations that are not so highly polluted could be a forest or hiking area (trees creating air!), a beach, or a park where the air is less polluted by vehicles and environmental toxins such as pesticides and herbicides. We must be mindful of getting repeat exposures to toxins and what we are actively doing to counterbalance the effects of toxins on our health. Don’t get stuck in a rut, find different localities to carry out your daily movement regimen!
You can’t control the air you breathe outside, but you can start to clean up the air you breathe inside your home. HEPA filters are a great start to ridding your indoor air of 99.7% dust, pollen, mold, and bacteria. For more information on how to clean up your indoor air, visit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Remember, air quality matters so choose cleaner air environments whenever possible!
