Mindset
As we reflect on the time since we began to understand that COVID-19 would forever impact our lives we must consider how the stress of a global pandemic is impacting our health. Stress is inevitable, we must develop the mental capacity for resilience.
At EWL we define resilience as the ability to overcome and to maintain positive health, strength, and well-being in the face of adversity.
The first step in cultivating a mindset of resilience is keeping the promises we make to ourselves.
For example, how many times have you told yourself, “today is the day I am going to drink enough water”, only to miss the goal. Have you known that you needed to set a boundary with someone in your life, both for your mental health and for the relationship, only to allow that person to continue to test your limits? Maybe you’ve vowed to start taking care of your health, only to fall back into old routines.
We must be impeccable with our words, especially to what we are telling ourselves.
Do you show up and do what you say you are going to do for yourself? Every time we break a promise to ourselves it becomes even harder to achieve our goals, no matter how big or small.
Our physical health, mental and emotional health, sleep health, and social health have been and will continue to be, impacted by COVID-19. We must take time to reflect on how this stress is showing up internally, in our relationships, and in each day as we move forward. Ask yourselves these questions and take action of cultivating a life of health, energy, and vitality:
How stressed am I? How is this stress presenting itself in my body, mentally and physically? How am I managing stress each day? What am I doing for self-care, resilience, and sustainability? How am I measuring my health?
Dedicating even 3 minutes a day to practice deep breathing, pray, meditate, listen to soft music, take screen breaks, reflect on your purpose, recount your gratitude list, or recenter yourself will make a huge impact on your health and life.
When you have a bit more time for self-care consider getting outdoors and connecting with nature, taking a warm bath, reading a book, enjoying a cup of hot tea, trying a new recipe, volunteering your time, going on a walk or bike ride, practicing yoga, detoxing with Prolon, seeking out the support of a mental health counselor, or doing one of your favorite activities!
Challenge yourself to really pay attention to what you are telling yourself. When we are impeccable with our words we are creating a sense of worthiness, tell yourself, I am worthy of the truth, I am worthy of commitment, I am worthy of health, I am worthy of balance, I am worthy of boundaries, I am worthy of love, I am worthy of self-care, I am worthy.
Remember, without mental resilience we cannot build physical resilience.
