We take the time to listen, give you a written plan you can follow, and keep looking when the first answer isn’t enough.
Enhanced Wellness Living is a functional medicine clinic in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Kelly Engelmann, FNP-BC, opened its doors in 2004, making it the longest-standing functional medicine practice in the state.
Most people who find us have already been somewhere else. Two doctors, sometimes three. Their labs came back normal, and they still feel awful. When they call, they tell us some version of the same thing: “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.” If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
Here’s the short version.
We don’t stop at the test result. We build the plan with you, hand you the map, and keep going until we find what’s driving it.
An approach to healthcare that looks for the root cause of your symptoms instead of only managing them.
Serving Ridgeland, Jackson & Madison since 2004.
Standard lab work is built to catch disease, not to explain how you feel. A result inside the normal range only means you’re not sick enough to be flagged. It doesn’t mean your body is working the way it should. So if you’ve been told everything looks fine but you still don’t feel like yourself, you’re not imagining it.
There’s a second problem, and Kelly Engelmann calls it her biggest frustration with this industry. Plenty of places will run impressive testing. Far fewer will build you a plan of care to act on. These days, people order labs online and ask an AI to interpret them, and that misses a great deal.
Testing without a plan is just expensive data. Somebody has to sit down with you, walk through your results, and tell you what to do on Monday morning.
A standard visit is built around a diagnosis code and a 15-minute slot. Care at Enhanced Wellness Living is built around you: a 16-week program with a written roadmap and a full care team in your corner. Here’s how patients describe care elsewhere, side by side with how we work in Ridgeland.
| Feature | What patients describe elsewhere | Enhanced Wellness Living |
|---|---|---|
| The visit | A long wait, then a short visit. One patient told us they watched the doctor Google their question. | An in-depth first consultation where we walk through your whole story: your history, your symptoms, your goals, and every lab you already have. |
| The question asked | What's your diagnosis, and which drug matches it? | When did you last feel well? What was the first domino to fall? A virus, a surgery, a trauma, a major stressor. |
| Testing | A standard panel, reviewed against the normal range. | Testing chosen for your case, read for patterns rather than pass or fail. |
| What you leave with | A prescription and a follow-up in three months. | A written roadmap card so you always know what comes next. |
| Who treats you | One provider, in isolation. | Two nurse practitioners and a health coach who review your case together. |
| Between visits | Call back and leave a message. | Reach us by phone, text, or email. You'll usually hear back within 24 hours, 48 at the latest. |
| When progress stalls | You're told the labs look fine. | We keep looking for what's underneath it. Kelly's word for the team is "relentless." |
Three things, and none of them came from a brochure. They’re how we show up for patients every day.
Kelly Engelmann describes the team’s core strength as never settling for “we don’t know.” If your progress isn’t moving in a reasonable direction, Enhanced Wellness Living goes looking for what’s driving that. We can’t promise you a specific outcome. What we can promise is that we won’t give up on you, and we won’t run out of next steps.
Labs and lifestyle is the framework our whole practice runs on. Think of your labs as the map at the mall that says “You are here.” Lifestyle is the route you walk to get where you want to be, and you won’t walk it alone. A clinic that only hands you the map has done half the job.
Your body has a tremendous capacity to heal and repair itself. Many people who come to us have lost hope in that, and getting that hope back is often the first real change we see.
We also disagree with a common message online. Influencers like to say there’s one root cause, and that fixing that one thing fixes everything. That’s not how bodies work. It’s usually a group of things driving how you feel, and the foundation has to come first.
The other half of what we believe is about you. You do the work, and we help you see what to do. When a patient sits in our office in tears over how far they’ve come, the truth is that they changed their life. We just handed them the map.
This is right for you if you have normal labs and abnormal energy, if you’ve felt dismissed, or if you’re the kind of person who wants to know why rather than just what to take. About half our patients are professionals catching a change early. The other half arrive saying, “You’re my last resort.” Either way, you’re welcome here.
This may not be the right fit if you want a prescription and no other changes. Lifestyle is usually a big part of what’s driving the problem, and no program can work around that. It also may not be the right time if you can’t make room for the appointments. We’d rather tell you that on a 15-minute phone call than after you’ve paid for a consultation. Not sure which side you’re on? That’s exactly what the call is for.
Yes, and it’s a fair question to ask. Functional medicine is practiced by licensed clinicians and built on standard medical science: laboratory testing, physiology, and peer-reviewed nutrition and lifestyle research. At Enhanced Wellness Living, your care is led by board-certified nurse practitioners, and progress is measured with real labs, not guesswork.
Patients commonly come to us with fatigue, hormone imbalance, thyroid concerns, gut issues, weight that won’t budge, brain fog, poor sleep, and men’s and women’s wellness concerns. If your labs keep coming back “normal” but you don’t feel normal, functional medicine is built for exactly that.
No. We work alongside your existing care, not in place of it. As an integrative practice, we combine root-cause functional medicine with conventional medicine when it’s the right tool, and we’re happy to coordinate with your other providers as needed.
