March is Nutrition month and is all about honoring our food-first approach to health, healing, and wellness! Simply eating whole foods and eliminating processed foods can and will have an astounding impact on your overall health!
Food has the potential to heal the body in a profound way. Food is medicine and if we know how to use food as medicine, we can help our bodies heal.
The food we eat each day impacts our overall health, wellness, body composition, hormones, weight and belly fat, energy and metabolism, mood and mental health, skin health, ability to age healthily, and so much more! Creating a lifestyle of balance through your beliefs, values, and wellness goals and developing a whole food based diet ensures that you can maintain a lifestyle of detoxification and your body will become efficient at excreting toxins, preferably on the same day. This leads to a life filled with energy and vitality!

Since 1990, obesity trends in our Nation have dramatically increased. 35% of Americans are obese and 77% are overweight. In Mississippi, we have gone from 10-14% obese to over 35%. What’s changed? Its not our genes, its our epigenetics, or the way our environment is impacting our genes. We are living more sedentary lifestyles with less activity, we are eating out more and consuming poor-quality foods, we are constantly connected with very little downtime. We struggle with portion distortion, we perceive a value in supersizing and free refills. We have to realize that all of this plays into how our genes are activated.

Every time you eat or drink, you are either fighting or feeding disease. It’s not necessarily the food that you are eating, it’s the food that you are able to absorb that can make the greatest impact. Your body needs the right food, in the right amount, and at the right time.

Leaky gut is the destruction of the gut lining, causing improper absorption of food, which leads to toxins entering the bloodstream and causing inflammation and eventually disease if gone untreated.
Leaky gut causes improper absorption of nutrients, ongoing inflammation, multiple food intolerances, especially gluten and dairy. Symptoms of leaky gut include, bloating after eating, fatigue after eating, food sensitivity, constipation or diarrhea, a weakened immune system, headaches, memory loss, brain fog, depression and anxiety, skin rashes such as eczema or rosacea, cravings for sugar, muscle and joint pain, arthritis, and autoimmune diseases.
Leaky gut can impact our hormonal balance and leave us with various illnesses and lead to autoimmune disease.
While leaky gut sounds like the most horrific condition you could have, sadly, it has become very common in America and is the precursor to autoimmune disease. Autoimmunity begins in the small intestine. We can heal leaky gut at this stage if your body has not already reached the point of autoimmune and the chances of developing LG diminish dramatically.

Vitamin B12-is imperative for overall health and the functions of your brain health, blood cell production, and nerve functions. Vitamin B12 plays an important role in the production of DNA and red blood cells. Vitamin D deficiency are common, particularly as we age and become elderly. Signs of a Vitamin B12 deficiency include paleness of your skin or jaundice, trouble with balance and mobility, confusion or dementia, loss of appetite, weakness and fatigue, irregular heart rate, blurred vision., dizziness, shortness of breath, depression, tingling or the feeling of pins and needles, and more.
